This second opera of the season presented by the Pacific Northwest Opera is based on an ancient Chinese tale. Turandot is an epic masterpiece of revenge, power and love. The vengeful princess Turandot has decreed that she will marry only a royal suitor who can answer her three riddles and those that fail will lose their heads -- and many have. The tartar prince Calaf, filled with the fire of heroes and bewitched by her beauty, is determined to try -- and succeeds but not without tragedy. Giacomo Puccini’s final opera is filled with passion and soaring melodies.
Sung in original Italian with English supertitles.
