The Skagit Brass Quintet is made up of some of Skagit Valley’s finest brass players: Cindy Luna and Bennie Rawson on Trumpet\, Amanda Smith on French Horn\, Vince Fejeran on Trombone\, and Jeremy Carrillo on Bass Trombone. Skagit Brass is unique in its versatility of musical styles\, allowing the quintet to perform music from Sousa to Bach and Ewald to Ellington. Its members perform with Skagit Symphony\, A’Town Big Band\, North Cascade Concert Band\, The Skagit Community Band\, as well as other chamber ensembles. \nThe intimate Masterworks Chamber Music Series takes place in the Studio Space at McIntyre Hall. The experienced and accomplished musicians of this quintet are as diverse as the instruments they play. Among them you will find an avid birder and mycologist\, an accountant who claims to be retired\, a former lawyer turned tennis club owner\, and two music teachers who find their joy in singing and playing music with youngsters. They all play in Skagit Symphony as well as various other local ensembles. Together\, Northwest Wind Quintet has an ever-expanding and diverse repertoire that draws on various genres\, from arrangements of 17th century dances through works by 21st century composers–including local composer\, arranger\, and clarinetist\, Barry Ulman. \nThe intimate Masterworks Chamber Music Series takes place in the Studio Space at McIntyre Hall. DESCRIPTION:McIntyre Hall Presents \nOdd Pearl Consort \nSunday\, February 7     2:00pm \nThe fourth concert of the Masterworks Chamber Muic Series: The Odd Pearl Consort consists of flutist Miguel Rodé\, violinist Bonnie Wilkens\, viola da gambist Amy Warren\, and harpsichordist Randall Wilkens. They have played together since 2019\, when they were introduced to each other by Linda Melsted\, a leading figure in Seattle’s early music scene. Performing on period instruments\, the Odd Pearl Consort is on a quest to explore the vast repertoire of trio sonatas and chamber music by Telemann\, Bach\, Handel\, and other 17th and 18th century composers throughout Europe. They perform regularly in community venues\, retirement homes\, and house concerts throughout the region\, and present an annual Baroque Vespers program at Bethany Covenant Church in Mount Vernon. \nThe name “Odd Pearl” refers to the original meaning of the word “Baroque\,” which according to Merriam-Webster “came to English from a French word meaning ‘irregularly shaped.’ At first\, the word in French was used mostly to refer to pearls. Eventually\, it came to describe an extravagant style of art characterized by curving lines\, gilt\, and gold.” Hence\, the name Odd Pearl. \nThe intimate Masterworks Chamber Music Series takes place in the Studio Space at McIntyre Hall. Michael Wheatley and Barb Hunter met each other in the Skagit Symphony\, where Dr. Wheatley serves as Music Director and Ms. Hunter is a member of the cello section\, both hail from Cincinnati\, Ohio\, where they began their musical studies in the local youth programs.
