Messiah
Saturday, December 20 7:00pm
The Starry Night Orchestra, Choir, and soloists conducted by Malcolm Peterson and Austin McCombs, perform parts 1 & 3 of Handel’s famed holiday celebration in music: Messiah! Professional soloists will make beautiful McIntyre Hall resound with the traditional majesty of this well-loved masterpiece!
Composed in 1741, George Frideric Handel’s Messiah is an English-language oratorio that tells the story of Jesus Christ, focusing on his birth, death, and resurrection. It’s structured in three parts, each reflecting a different stage in the Christian narrative. The libretto, compiled by Charles Jennens, uses passages from the King James Bible and the Coverdale Psalter. Profoundly meaningful, technically clever, and musically sublime, this masterpiece (in whole or in part) will leave you inspired.
