McIntyre Hall Presents
Masterworks Chamber Music Series: Northwinds Quintet & Cincinnatus Duo
Sunday, April 13 2:00pm
The last concert of the Masterworks Chamber Music Series features the Northwinds Quintet. Northwinds was formed in 2020 and includes Beverly Dooley, flute; Ken Bronstein, oboe; Barry Ulman, clarinet; Jackson Stewart- DeBelly, bassoon; and Doug Robertson, horn. The experienced and accomplished musicians of the woodwind quintet are as diverse as the instruments they play. Among them you will find an avid birder and mycologist, an accountant who claims to be retired, a former lawyer turned tennis club owner, and two music teachers who find their joy in singing and playing music with youngsters. They all play in Skagit Symphony as well as various other local ensembles. Together, Northwinds has an ever-expanding and diverse repertoire that draws on various genres, from arrangements of 17th century dances through works by 21st century composers–including local composer, arranger, and clarinetist, Barry Ulman.
Joining in the program are Michael Wheatley, violin, and Barb Hunter, cello ~ the CINCINNATUS DUO. The two met each other in the Skagit Symphony, where Dr. Wheatley serves as Music Director and Ms. Hunter is a member of the cello section, both hail from Cincinnati, Ohio, where they began their musical studies in the local youth programs. Dr. Wheatley and Ms. Hunter both attended the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, after which their paths diverged.
The intimate Masterworks Chamber Music concerts takes place in the Studio Space at McIntyre Hall. Patrons are encouraged to enjoy refreshments during the concert. Light appetizers and refreshments are included in the ticket price. Drinks will be available for purchase at the bar.
